After a long winter in Toronto (not as long as usually is but it's still long) I could see again some flowers coming back in Spring, this time in Niagara Falls.

I will appreciate any help for getting their name.

Torch Ginger at Ubud Water Palace, Bali.

Torch Ginger (Nicolaia elatior)
This spectacular flower is one of the most beautiful of all flowering tropical plants in Bali. Both leaf and flower stalks emerge separately from underground tubers. The most common form has bright red flowers, though there is another with pink blossoms.

The flowers grow from rhizomes. They have erect shoots; each composed of a stem and leaves and often terminated by an inflorescence of frequently bright color that comes from the bracts rather than the actual flower.

These are photos taken with a video camera, that is the reason for the low resolution and quality, but I wanted to share them because of their rare beauty. Delos in Summer is plenty of light and dry vegetation. It was July 21th, 2006.

It should be a kind of Hyacinth (Jacinto) but I have my doubts. Anyway, it is a beautiful and strange flower, its color is fantastic.
